The background of the upazila

In 1864 an out-post police station or police outpost was established in Badla village, 6 kilometers west of present Itna Sadar. On 15th June 1906, through the Gazette notification of East Bengal and Assam Government 6676 The closure of the Badla Police Outpost, and the whole of Thana was established in Itna. 

  The number of unions in itna thana was 11. Such as: 1. Rayatuti 2 | Dhanpur 3 Mortaza 4 | Itna 5 | Clay 6 | Bedibari 7 | Alangpuri 8 | Jayciddhi 9 | Cutlass 10 Cover 11 | Kwat Jurad. When Mithamain thana was established in 1984, Dhaka, Katakhal and Kewatjur were affiliated with the union of Mithamain Police Station. On the other hand, the union of Gazipur union with Khatia from Khaliajuri upazila of Netrokona district. After breaking the Bariabari union, another new Union named Chouganga was established.  Recently, Gazipur union is connected to Khalijayan upazila of Netrokona district, Itna upazila has now been formed with nine unions.Namely: -
